Unigrana’s
history
Unigrana started its activity in 1991 as a trading company of the
Granterre Union (Co-operative) in Modena. Thanks to this structure
and to the quality it has always been able to guarantee, Unigrana
holds the leadership in Europe in the Parmigiano Reggiano market
and is among the first operators non manufacturers for Grana Padano.
The Company intends to reach very satisfactory targets and leading
positions also with the new line of DOP cheese of the Italian tradition,
created with the intention to further widen the offer to users
and traders.
Since 1999, Unigrana has been performing also industrial activities,
such as: butter production, pig breeding, warehousing, ripening
and packaging of cheese.

There’s something of exclusive
and unique in Unigrana’s
structure, something which differentiates the Granterre Union from
other milk-cheese producers: the
total control of the chain, whose “heart” is
Unigrana, at the centre of an integrated commercial and manufacturing
system which comprehends agricultural, breeding, manufacturing,
trading and marketing activities.
Granterre Union is placed above this system, being able to count
on:
96 producers, 71 cheese factories which represent around 1,600
cattle breeding and around 1,000 hectares of lands and pastures
transformed into biological crops devoted to the production of
the biologic Parmigiano Reggiano, not to mention the floricoltures
and pig breeding.
Finally, Artecasearia is the Granterre’s Research & Development
company which backs up the Union’s entire system by guaranteeing
a high qualitative standard with the support of its qualified
technicians and specialised labs.
The name Unigrana has always been coupled with tradition and
continuous innovation: from applied technology to projects which
anticipate market trends, to a service which tries to meet the
modern distribution by providing new logistic solutions.
The customer’s protection is Unigrana’s target.
The more innovative a project is and appeals to tradition, the
more necessary is to offer guarantees to protect one’s
customers; this requires also resources, skills, exhaustive researches
and consistent developing times.
And above all in a low concentration area, with many small operators,
only a Group with suitable dimensions can guarantee controls
and certifications on the whole chain and – consequently – the
integrity and reliability of its offer. Unigrana and the companies
of the Granterre Union develop marketing plans on a sound agricultural-industrial
basis providing its distribution partners and users with reliable
solutions.
